The Friends (ha, more like friend)

(no subject)

So it looks like I won't have time to see a musical while I'm in Budapest, sadly. Some stuff about flights already being booked and someone signing a contract to keep me from wandering off by myself.

gah.

In happier news, I've managed to put subtitles onto my Rudolf and Elisabeth DVDs (after a painful afternoon of reading online guides and downloading about a hundred different programs)! So I watched Rudolf with my sister two days ago and for some reason, the subtitles were a glaring shade of purple. At least it was readable. Anyway, neither of us were very impressed by the show, though my gigglefits whenever Uwe Kroger came on made up for the horror that was the storyline.

Our theory in the end was that Taaffe (I keep writing Taafee) was really Death having fun while bored and waiting for Elisabeth to get killed. So now that random nightmare-Taaffe-in-Rudolf's-bed scene makes perfect sense! Obviously what really happens in the let's-shoot-ourselves-yay!! final scene was that Taafee pirouetted in (Uwe!Death does some very nice pirouettes...), whipped off his wig, shook out his long blonde girly hair and laughed evilly and kissed them both. Mwahahahaha!

The Elisabeth first act has come out in a strange yellow-and-purple mushed together mix while the second act is nice and white - I'm trying the first act again as I type. Yay.

Annnnnd... it's still yellow and purple and wtf?

HUNGARY
[info]sapphirecrow
I'm going to Hungary this Christmas!!! When my parents called to tell me this afternoon I literally screamed running down the corridors and scared quite a few people walking past.

Ahfghfvbggfhj. I must have posted about it on lj before, because I remember [info]greenie1980commenting here on how I should pack her in my suitcase if I got the place - anyway, there's this whole big Maths Olympiad thing that I somehow did well enough in to be ranked as one of the top ten teenage mathematicians in the UK or something crazy like that, so I get sent to Hungary to train with the Hungarian top ten or whatever to prepare for the International Maths Olympiad. (Even if I do make it to the International level, there is no way that I am going to go through with it - too much work - but hey, I can still train for it!)

So yeah. I'm going to Hungary for the New Year. XDDDDDDD

Unfortunately....... a few notsogood things,
1. the trip's also over my 18th birthday, being at the end of the year, and seeing how irritatingly health-and-safety-conscious-noyou'renotallowedout! my last maths course was, I'm not sure how great that's going to be. D:
2. which means I'll have to miss my booked evening of Wicked that I've been looking forward to for the last three months... *sob*
3. and I don't know if I'll have time to actually go to the theatre in Budapest (the main reason why I wanted to go there anyway!) since it'll be all mathsy and such, and it looks like all the early January tickets have been sold for R&J at least? It seems like there's some Vampirok Balja ones left, but of course I don't know how free my evenings will be, or otherwise if it's at all possible to book my own flight and go there a day or so earlier. So there's no point speculating on a theatre visit until I find out. Which will be tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that...

this has absolutely no resemblance to non-fictional events

Person A goes, "HOMG YOUR FIC LOOKS A TINY LITTLE BIT LIKE MINE. YOU PLAGARIST!"

Person B goes, "NO DUDE, I WAS JUST INSPIRED. DUH. WHOSE OPINION IS IT ANYWAY?"

Everyone goes, "MINE."

Person C goes, "EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT INVOLVED IN THIS IN THE SLIGHTEST AND I KNOW THAT A AND B BOTH WANT TO KEEP THIS QUIET, I'M GOING TO POST A BIG PUBLIC MESSAGE TELLING THE WORLD THAT B IS EVIL!!! OH, AND I MIGHT AS WELL TROLL A FORUM AND COMPLETELY IGNORE A MOD'S FINAL WARNING IN THE SAME MOVE 'COS I KNOW I'M RIGHT. OH YEAH."

Everyone goes, "I'M SO UPSET THAT I'M GONNA CRY AND I HATE YOU, FANDOM DRAMA, SO I'M GONNA QUIT. HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, HUH?"

Good times.

a few things
[info]sapphirecrow
- A writer in Gakuen Alice fanficdom I know got plagarised (the whole copy&paste deal with a few name changes to disguise it) some time ago, and was understandably pissed about it - this week, she was (very unfairly) accused of plagarism herself. God, I hate fandom.

- My friends are awesome people. I think I may have said this somewhere before, but I can't remember where and it probably wasn't lj. Anyway, (codename) Grace gave me a surprise 'Good Luck!' card - hidden in my bag so I wouldn't find it until I got to my room there - for my interview yesterday. And then that evening, (codename) Scarlett gave me an early birthday present, as she wouldn't be around for my actual birthday a few weeks in the future, which turned out to be some Maybelline eyeshadow (I think the whole world knows how much I love eye make-up - also, the brand Maybelline forever will remind me of that silly Natsume-gets-turned-into-a-cat-called-Maybelline fic I wrote whenever) aaaaaand... a song. Composed for me.

Scarlett is one of the best composers I know. Even her improvisations kick the ass of 99% of pop songs out there - example: her improvised parody of that fan-loved why-wasn't-it-in-the-Twilight-movie Yiruma piece, 'River Flows In You' (for everyone here that's not Korean, Yiruma is a source of much ridicule - especially as he attended this school himself). She's done a few other informal compositions for birthdays, such as a fugue based on Grace's most-said phrases and two arrangements of Viva La Vida for the Viva La Vida's lover's 18th (a four-part fugue, and a violin one as VLVLover is a violinist).

Enough of the praises. She thought that I'd be more into an 80's musical song than a fugue, so that's what she did - a song in the musicals style. Everything about it is so amazing and wow and almost-parody and so hilarious that I was in hysterics for the next half-hour. The chords, rhythms, cliche-semitone-upwards-modulation-after-the-middle-eight, syncopated Fm-C bit for the intro, ahhhhh it's wonderful.

And the words. I can't remember all of it just now, but here are the bits that I do remember-
the beginning: The vampires are coming to get you
With highly inappropriate names
And you might wonder why they are running
The answer is that Angela's came

[I assume this is talking about my Vampire Dynasty on The Sims 2, not Herbert or von Krolock senior]

and a verse
That innocent lil' book that you're reading
Just when you're enjoying it well
Angela looks over your shoulder
And she has something dirty to tell
*cue chorus*

(the chorus is very 'Angela is amazing' and therefore embarrassing (er...even more embarrassing than the rest) when I say it myself)

and...um... oh yeah, the middle eight-
You go onto a website (okay!)
You find her favourite actor (hooray!)
You find that he's a drag queen (no way!)
And that he dyes his hair blond (he's gay!)

which I think is very unfair. -.- I was laughing for hours at this, though, and the octave leap for the 'o-kaaaay!' and all those other brackets is just genius.

- It's a party for our House tonight and Secret Santa as well. ^^ I'm pretty confident that I got my person (Grace, coincidentally) a good gift (particularly as I went shopping with her and heard her say, "Aww I really want this hat! Oh well. I haven't got any money to spare.") and that she doesn't know that it was me (I asked someone else to write the message, as my handwriting - according to Grace herself - is "very very recognisable" and used a different wrapping paper to my usual).

- I think I'm allergic to cats.

But... Roxie is just so sweet! She's the most friendly cat I've ever met, and probably the most beautiful too. Unfortunately, she leaves long cat hairs all over my clothes. I've catnapped her a few times and taken her to my room (she is ADORABLE when she explores my wardrobe or curls up on my bed), but I always get a nasty rash afterwards.

Still, the other cat - Shooey - is a shorthair, so I hope I'm not allergic to him too. He's bigger and yet very much more shyer than Roxie. (But I think he likes me because he curled up closer to me and let met pet him when the other girls scared him.)

- Misfits - the new series on E4, not sure if it's being broadcast or even mentioned outside the UK - is pretty awesome. I think I have a new thing to obsessively fangirl. AND LOOK- one of the leads, Iwan Rheon, was the Moritz in the London Spring Awakening.
WOAH.
Only... I don't think he was the Moritz I saw, because that week was his understudy Richard Southgate. So that's why I didn't recognise him on Misfits (duh) until I wiki'ed it.
